Talk @ NIIT

Hey all,
Recently I had been invited by NIIT Shimla Center to deliver a talk to GNIIT students on "Emerging trends in IT industry". Also, I was asked to deliver a talk on how to prepare yourself for interviews, whether it be technical or the HR interview, and share my experience with Sun Microsystems Inc. and Wipro Technologies.
7th July came as a suprise for me when I was called upon by NIIT Group Leader Mr. Mahesh to deliver a talk to Semester C GNIIT students at 5 PM in the evening. The talk was rescheduled for 8th July, same time. Having packed my bags, I reached the center before time. We started at 5:15 PM with a discussion over what is going in the IT industry.
To tell you all, GNIIT folks are really awesome people. Why ? Because, we try learning a language in a bazarre manner and what they do is - they get into the depth of it, I mean what ever they do , they are best in it, because of all the practical skills they have. The saying "Practice makes the man PERFECT" fits to them all. So as a would be engineer, I was there to talk about them and how they influence the IT industry. We discussed over and over, on various trends in Computer and IT Industry,
Having said so, I started with a small presentation on how to prepare yourself for the interview. We talked over each and every aspect of interviewing process and discussed the Do's and Don'ts very well. We talked over body language, articulation, wardrobe, carry over etc etc.
As the presentation moved along, I discussed various aspects of interview process with my own examples and also cited examples of some of my friends who made to Microsoft, Google, Infosys, LnT Infotech, Wipro, Accenture, Patni and many more from other companies too. Gradually and slowly, audience started taking interest and came up with a lot of queries which were solved in no time. We had a laugh on various occasions. I told them about how we all friends have failed on a number of occasions and how we all took lessons from the past and recovered very well.
Then I was asked to share my experiences with Sun Microsystems Inc. and Wipro Technologies. I just did. Moreover I shared my experiences with Infosys and LnT Infotech too.
Lately, I was told by Mr. Mahesh that these guys lack in confidence, they do know all stuff but sometimes they just can' express it because of shyness. So I was just asked by Mr. Mahesh, before the interaction, if I could come up with something to motivate them.
That is really difficult, to motivate others and influence them to get on the right path. But it just happened. We had a heartful discussion on each other weaknesses and we came up with a number of solutions to get oneself rid of his/er weakness. It was all in all a great experience to speak like a monk.
In the end I concluded with a saying "The Secret of getting ahead, is getting Started"
To wrap up, I would say that I just did my job, as a counseller, as a mentor, as a professional, as a speaker, as a monk, as a philospher, as a friend and many of the roles I could put myself in. In the end, it was a job well done and the applause I received, confirmed it.
Thank You all.
